ROBIN DE JAGER IS A SOUTH AFRICAN FILMMAKER AND WRITER RENOWNED FOR HIS BOLD, THOUGHT-PROVOKING, AND PROVOCATIVE STORYTELLING.
His work explores the country’s hidden urban subcultures, contemporary identities, and the intersection of digital media within Africa’s socio-political fabric. His passion for these themes took root during his Fine Arts studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he refined his creative craft with a focus on the ethics of representation.
Following a career as an advertising creative and commercial director across South Africa, Nigeria, and the UK, Robin later returned to academia to pursue a Master’s in Film. This marked the beginning of his exploration into the misfit archetypes in Africa’s emerging New Film movement.
His portfolio includes collaborations with creatives such as Neill Blomkamp, Moonchild Sanelly, and Pearl Thusi. Robin’s debut film, Bakhona, garnered international recognition, earning the Rode Reel Award, a screening at the ARIFF Festival, and coverage in Variety, among others. Currently, his provocative short film Lil_ith has made its international festival debut at the Oscar- and BAFTA-qualifying Odense International Film Festival, launching its festival run across the globe.
